1965

Nodes were installed in computers. This was pivotal because it was the first message sent.

Global networking became a reality. Because of this, the term internet was born and our everyday lives will be majorly changed.

Telenet is born! This is important because it is the fist internet service provider.

TCP/IP became the system used for the internet. This is significant because it is still the standard system used today!

1983

The Domain Name System is created. This includes .gov, .com, .edu, .mil, .org, .net and .int which is pivotal because we still use them in every website today.

1990

HTML is developed. This continues to have a big impact on how we use the Internet today because it is used in many things.

Researchers figure out how to watch the coffee pot from the computer. This is an important part of the history of the internet because it is the first webcam in history.

2004

Facebook goes online. This is very important as it begins the era of social networking.

2009 marks the internet's 40th anniversary! This is pivotal because you can see how the internet has gotten so much better through the years.

51% of U.S. adults say that they use online banking. This is important, as it shows how simple daily tasks have been effected by the internet.
