1963

ASCII Is Developed. American Standard Code for Information Interchange, is a character encoding standard for electronic communication.

1970

Dr. David Clark implements Internet protocols for the Multics systems, the Xerox PARC ALTO and the IBM PC.

1981

Ira Fuchs co-founds BITNET. BITNET is a network of academic sites comparable to but separate from the Internet.

1987

Africa gets connected to the internet. 167 million people living in Africa get connected to the internet making them able to interact more with the world.

1992

First Layman's guide to the internet is published.

1995

The MP3 is developed. It is the world's firsthandheld portable music player.

1999

Craig Newmark founds "Craigslist". Craigslist is an American classified advertisements website with sections devoted to jobs, housing, for sale, items wanted, services, community, gigs, résumés, and discussion forums.

2002

Mahabir Pun gets Nepal connected to the internet. Nepal also got connected to the internet through China.

2010

China dominates the internet usage with over 450 million users. That's more than one-third of the Asian giant's population and 73 million more people than 2009.

2016

Google unveils Google Asistant. The super-smart digital helper Assistant whose task is to maintain the Internet giant's tight grip on consumers and their wallets as their attention shifts to smartphones and Internet-connected devices.
