This is Ms. Higdon’s 31st year at FCHS and her 42nd year teaching visual arts. She holds a B.S. in Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, and an M.S. + 30 in Secondary Education from the University of Louisville. In addition, Ms. Higdon has done extensive coursework and workshops with experts in 2 & 3-dimensional studies. She holds certification in Gifted & Talented Ed. and Advanced Placement AP 2 & 3D Studio Art and AP Drawing. She has completed advanced courses at Purdue University, IU Bloomington, and New York University. She has done administrative & curatorial work at the KY Horse Park, International Museum of the Horse, Louisville Science Center, American Museum of Natural History, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and Gallery 216. Her work in pottery and fiber has been in a number of gallery shows, including KY Museum of Art & Crafts, Actors Theatre of Louisville, JCC Patio Gallery, Bernheim Forest Gallery, Metro Arts Center and Carnegie Center for Art & History. Ms. Higdon is the founder and chairperson of the Art Awards Fund that provides awards for NA-FC art students in the NA-FC Secondary Schools Art Show. In May, 2008, Ms. Higdon was awarded Arts Advocate of the Year by the Arts Council of Southern IN. At FCHS, Ms. Higdon sponsors the Muddaubers Pottery Club, the Fine Arts Academic Super Bowl Team and is Co-Sponsor the National Art Honor Society.

Intro Intro 2D/3DIntro to Art is a survey of beginning art theories and practices. Students explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
Ceramics Ceramics Ceramics courses are divided into 3 sections: Ceramics I-II and Ceramics III-IV, V-VI. Ceramics I-II is a beginning study of clay and pottery. Students will experiment with hand building, a variety of decorating techniques and glazing.
Advanced Advanced 2D/3DAdvanced Art/Visual Communication is an upper level course where students demonstrate their ability to use traditional art skills learned in precious classes to create individualized styles of expression.
AP AP Studio Art This course has been developed to accommodate students who have expressed an interest in completing and submitting a portfolio for AP and college credit.

Kerry Jones

Ms. Jones is a graduate of Floyd Central and has an adult son who is also an FC grad. She joined the staff in the 2011-2012 year. Before coming to Floyd Central she taught at the elementary schools. Ms. Jones earned a B.S. from Ball State University and holds a Masters + 30 from Indiana University. She has taught Project Ahead at IU Southeast for over 10 years. Outside of the school day Ms. Jones Co-sponsors the National Art Honor Society.

Image 1 Intro 2D/3DIntro to Art is a survey of beginning art theories and practices. Students explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
Image 2 Painting Painting I-IV are upper level painting classes that concentrate on specific areas of painting. Media used include acrylic, watercolor, tempera, and oil.
Drawing DrawingDrawing courses are divided into two sections: Drawing I-II and Drawing III-IV. Topics covered include perspective, figure drawing and anatomy, still life, abstraction, surrealism, landscape, and many others.
