Ceramics

Ceramics courses are divided into 3 sections: Ceramics I-II and Ceramics III-IV, V-VI. Ceramics I-II is a beginning study of clay and pottery. Students will experiment with hand building, a variety of decorating techniques and glazing. Students are encouraged to work on the potter’s wheel. Students will learn about drying green ware, bisque, and glaze firings. Students will develop an understanding of clay and build upon this knowledge to design 3D forms using pinch, coil, slab, and wheel thrown techniques. The elements and principles of design will be used in the design of each piece. Students will explore both functional and nonfunctional forms. Ceramics III-IV & V-VI build on previous learning and are advanced courses.
